The site which is located in County Cork, Ireland, was a fortification from the year 1210, and the current structure was built starting in 1446. Its name was supposedly given by Elizabeth I in a fit of exasperation with the McCarthy family. The famous Blarney Stone is set high in the south wall. Legend says that kissing the stone will give you the gift of gab.
